For our final Thursday night Bible Study of the season, Randy asked us each to write our own version of Psalm 136. If it's been a while since you've read this one, it's worth a review. The Psalmist takes the reader through the marvels of creation, the history of his people and then current events of his own life. After each phrase, he reiterates "For His lovingkindness is everlasting. This is a powerful reminder of how God's goodness and love is a constant through eternity past, through each day of our lives and into the unknown future.
So here is my own version of Psalm 136.
"Give thanks to God, our Father,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Give thanks for His mercy towards us,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Give thanks for His ever-flowing grace,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
To Him who thought of our salvation before the beginning of time,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
To Him who created all things for our good and His own pleasure,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who gave us the grandeur of the mountains,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who designed the smallest cell,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
To Him who by wisdom brought His Word to mankind,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who revealed His law through Moses,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who showed His purposes for the nations through His prophets,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who redeemed our lives through the blood of Jesus,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who works through us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
To Him who brought salvation near for generations of my family,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who gave me a loving husband and two children,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
and Who called us all to saving faith through grace,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who showed His mighty hand through the miracle of saving Randy’s life,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who called us to travel to India to teach His truth among the poor,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who brought Joe back to the path of righteousness, transforming his heart,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
To Him whose mercies are new every morning,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Give thanks to this God, the only One worthy of praise,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting."
This seemed like a great way to start my blog - and a great attitude to foster in my own life. Why not write your own Psalm 136 today. Email it to me, I'd love to see it!
